| Tiivistelmä: | An empirical study on the co-evolution of competitive environments dominating firms and organizational forms in the paper industry is presented in the article. The authors name two theoretical implications for the study. First, drawing on the literature on national business systems and the societal effect, the authors propose that the country of origin affects companies especially by enabling them to develop distinctive organizational forms. Second, the authors demonstrate how the competitive conditions, dominant forms and firms are constantly transforming even in mature industries. This leads to the conclusion that there is a need for co-evolutionary research to pursue to combine intensive research designs and long-term perspectives in the examination of certain industries. |
