Tiivistelmä:This study's focus is on social (here as: soc.) attainment (as: attmt.) and mobility (here as: mob.) in a rural community of 19th century Southern Sweden. Based on high quality micro-level demographic and socioeconomic data, it is shown that intergenerational soc. mob. was quite frequent. Downward mob. was more prevalent than upward mob., also increasing over time. Soc. attmt. and mob. were determined by a combination of inherited factors and individual agency. Social origin (as: soc-org.) was of major importance, and so was the soc-org. of the spouse. Availability of networks as measured by place of birth also played a role in soc. achievement.
