Tiivistelmä:The author states that even prominent UK enterprises such as Marks&Spencer and Seinsbury still have either family connections on the board or substantial family shareholdings. Family businesses are particularly dominant in the sectors where the personal touch is valued. The service industries - hotels, retail stores, restaurants and the manufacturers of niche products in the food and clothes sectors - are all sectors in which "family-owned" is a prominent marketing tool to denote quality and commitment to the customer. The paper considers the family business and puts forward that a force to be reckoned with, the family enterprise has many advantages. But it has to be run professionally or problems arise.
