| Tiivistelmä: | A lot of examples are presented to illustrate how small businesses can grow rapidly by mergers and acquisitions (M and A). The characteristics of industries that seem to invite a large number of M and A are described. True to the traditions of American ingenuity, high-tech companies are most prone to M and A growth. Many motivations for these companies to conduct M and A activity are highlighted. The biggest M and A problems occur in cases where one of the parties is not prepared psychologically for the buyout. It is shown that financing growth by M and A can be dangerous. A number of good lessons are deduced from the cases mentioned and the wisdom of experienced entrepreneurs. |
