| Tiivistelmä: | It is shown how the relation between the mean arrival rate of breakdowns and the inspection frequency of equipment may be estimated in real-life situation. The study is carried out for a transit commission operating a fleet of buses. A model relating total downtime of buses incurred owing to inspections and repairs per unit time to inspection frequency of buses has been developed and applied to the authority's fleet of buses. A final objective is to determine the optimal inspection frequency which maximizes bus availability. |
