| Tiivistelmä: | In the first quarter of this year, the industrial production nation-wide will rise by 14.4%, slightly lower than the growth rate of the whole year in 1996. However, the total industrial output value of 9 provinces in the central area will see a high growth rate. There will be a strong momentum of investment in fixed assets in the western area and a generally greater growth in utilising foreign investment in various areas. In the first quarter, the retail sales of the whole country's consumer goods will rise by 20.4% and that of the eastern, central and western areas, by 20.6%, 20.5% and 19.5% respectively. The reasons for the growth are as follows: 1. The income of peasants will grow by 8%. 2. The demand for consumption will increase greatly in 1997. 3. The marketing of commercial housing will bring long partial demand for consumption. |
