Tiivistelmä:The Asian-Pacific region is defined, shares of Australia, North America and Western Europe are presented. The region is distinguished by an extraordinarily rapid export-oriented economic growth, an interregional trade becoming intense, and a growing share of the world exports of traditional products /such as textile and clothing/. Responses to East Asia's growth have been the Multifibre Arrengement attempting to slow down the decline of textile and clothing industries of the industrial economies, "voluntary" export restraints, and less adherance by the USA and the EC to the non-discriminatory, most-favoured-nation rules. The region's future growth and its relevance to the rest of the world is predicted; formation of a free trade association is considered unlikely.
