Tiivistelmä:Gender segregation refers to the employment of men and women in different industries, occupations, firms, or jobs. When job applicant gender systematically affects selection decisions, women tend to occupy female dominated jobs, and men are concentrated in male dominated jobs. This article develops a nearly complete explanation of the determinants of the genderbased selection decision. The authors integrate cognitive and contextual explanations and explain how this integration leads to an improved understanding of gender segregation.
