| Tiivistelmä: | The information and consultation of employees has been one of the most controversial and intractable issues in EC social policy for over 20 years, with numerous proposals for legislation - such as the draft "Vredeling" and Fifth Directives and the european Company Statute - blocked in Council. However, following the successful adoption of the European Works Councils (EWCs) Directive , albeit for only 14 member states, the Commission has made a new attempt to break the logjam. It has issued a Communication, consulting the EU institutions, the Member States and the social partners on the way forward. |
