Tiivistelmä:The author states that allowing network-supported groups to make incremental process improvements can result in quantum-leap competitive advantages over the long run. Most organizations using computers in a non-standalone way can be said to have at least some degree of virtuality. The more distributed computer-mediating communicating occurring , both within the organization and with outside world, the higher the degree of virtuality. The author studies whether a high degree of virtuality help or hinder the organizations and whether processes can be improved quickly enough to cope with competition and the drive for change facing virtual organizations today. Based on an analysis of 38 process improvement (PI) groups, this article addresses these questions.
