| Tiivistelmä: | The decision making of committees is examined. This is contrasted to certain stylized forms of centralized (hierarchical) versus decentralized (polyarchical) decision making. The role of the members of the committees is evaluated. The effects (costs) of individual approval errors in group decision are analyzed. For committees a framework is provided for ascertaining the optimal committee size as well as the optimal degree of consensus. For hierarchies the optimal number of levels is determined. For polyarchies the optimal number of units is sought for. The trade-offs within these forms are estimated. Suggestions for extensions of analysis are made with respect to strategic considerations, delays, complex organizational forms. |
