| Tiivistelmä: | The problems connected with the brewery business is discussed in light of the latest report delivered by the MMC (Monopolies and Mergers Commission) which threatens to alter radically the shape of the brewing industry in the UK. The Big Six producing 75 p.c. of British beer reacted to the report by threatening to sell off their brewing operations rather than their pubs. This would turn them into retailers and allow foreign-owned companies to pick up the breweries and create new empires. There are fears that the movement to a more statutory relationship between tenants and owners of pubs could be harmful. The implications of the report could mean that smaller, rural pubs are closed. |
