| Tiivistelmä: | The present paper discusses the consequences for production and distribution of the increased product diversity, higher flexibility and quality, faster responses and competitive prices required in competitive supply chains. It describes the concepts of order penetration point, time-based strategy and order release strategy which can be used to redesign the logistics chain towards responsitivity and lean production. The paper suggests that total quality management and business process reengineering will not succeed unless they are based on modern logistics foundations. |
