Tiivistelmä:The emergence of e-commerce has brought a whole new set of challenges for supply chains. To face these challenges, many are turning to new intermediaries, or "hypermediaries"- organizations that operate across virtual and traditional structures to facilitate all supply chain flows. As companies interject hypermediaries between themselves and their suppliers or customers, the relationships they once shared are affected. To explore the impact of hypermediation on interfirm relationships, this case study examines supply chains that have added a logistics hypermediary. Authors state that the value of hypermediating logistics and transportation services appears to be more readily evident to shippers than to carriers.
