Tiivistelmä: | Success in retailing depends heavily on location. Retailers do better if their shops/stores are situated adjacent to complementary or competitive establishments. Some of the earlier contributions to the study of micro-retail location are reviewed. A recent endeavour is reported in detail: the hypotheses, design and results of a comprehensive survey of the microlocational perceptions of traders in the centre of a major British city, Belfast. The results demonstrated the existence of strong intra-trade linkages; highlighted the importance of magnet stores and secondary attractors; revealed the significant contribution made by non-retail facilities to the commercial well-being of city-centre shop keepers. |
