Tiivistelmä: | One way to get some idea of what kind of changes a lengthy time period is likely to entail is to look at how the discipline has evolved over the past hundred years. For this purpose one can view the ECONOMIC JOURNAL as a representative of the profession. The author has used this opportunity to take a quick look at the evolution of the JOURNAL over the past century. In many respects, economics has made considerable progress. Analytical tools and models are often quite sophisticated and the growth in specialisation occurred but it is accompanied with increasingly narrower issues for a typical economist. One of the challenges for economists for the next hundred years is to bring more sophisticated tools to bear on a broader range of issues. |
