Tiivistelmä:Management has traditionally viewed product quality as only one aspect of production, not as a key strategic element for profitability. Arguments are enumerated in order to refute this misconception. Several dimensions of product quality are determined. Some of the general dimensions of product quality are: performance, durability, reliability, serviceability, aesthetics. Using the results of a large-scale study conducted by the Strategic Planning Institute of Cambridge, Massachusetts, quantitative data are provided concerning the link between quality and profitability. Five case studies are shortly reviewed. Seven steps of a quality enhancement program are identified.
