Violent crime has mushroomed throughout the former communist world. Nowhere more so than in russia and Ukraine, where mafia-style organized crime so penetrated commercial life that local and foreign businessmen now support a flourishing industry of private security firms. In Central Europe, however, contract killings and the like are, thankfully, rare. |
