Tiivistelmä:The producers of a homogeneous good are usually better off without a futures market. It is shown that selling in futures markets leads to a decrease of the related spot market prices. Consequently why should producers sell in the futures market? The reason is that by selling in the futures market the producers can precommit themselves to produce large quantities (though they can buy back contracted quantities in the spot market). This is an advantage for the individual producers but a disadvantage for the producers altogether.
