| Tiivistelmä: | Economic explanations for privatization in developing countries can be divided into two types: proximate and enduring causes. Privatizing countries usually have high budget deficits, high foreign debt and high dependence on international agencies such as the World Bank and IMF. The data show that in Latin America and Asia privatization is partly an attempt to correct past "overuse" of SOES (state-owned enterprises). |
