Tiivistelmä: | The paper by Richard Freeman deals with an important but quite difficult issue: will unions survive into the next century? The following comments aim at clarifying the argument and considering whether the American and British unions have a general relevance. From a methodological standpoint, do economists , and more extensively social scientists , use adequate concepts and tools, or should they not rely more clearly on historical retrospective analysis? Do ideas really affect the ability of unions to adapt to the new context of the next century? |
