Tiivistelmä:Volumes have been written about the monumental experiment in economic reform undertaken by China in late 1978. This experiment involved introducing what Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping coined the "socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics", a practice that was to supplement the then-prevailing planned economy with a market mechanism. Since then, many changes have been taking place in the country. Among them the revival of the once-stagnant retail market.
