Tiivistelmä:There are costs both in cooperating with and controlling a partner in an alliance. Here the authors have concentrated of the less examined costs of cooperation. The authors presumed that the task complexity, inter-partner diversity and perceptions of equitable behavior all have an influence on the perceptions of cooperation costs. The hypotheses were tested among contractual alliances within the construction industry of Hong Kong. The authors found that the cooperation costs and control costs of alliances are distinct as assumed, because both cooperation costs and transaction costs seem to affect the time and effort managers put on an alliance. The article concludes how the research on cooperation costs should be included in the studies that compare the selection of alternative partners and structures of alliances and also to the wider scale of reviewing market, hierarchy and hybrid governance forms.
