| Tiivistelmä: | Based on three different measures of conservatism (hereafter as: cons-m.), it is documented that i. the percentage of inside directors is negatively related to cons-m., and ii. the percentage of outside directors' shareholdings is positively related to cons-m. This paper's sample consists of 306 firms out of the S&P 500 over the fiscal years from 1999 to 2001 etc. The results hold after controlling for firm size, growth opportunities, industry, institutional ownership, inside director ownership, leverage, and unobservable firm characteristics that are stable over time. In general, the evidence is consistent with accounting cons-m. assisting directors in reducing agency costs of firms. |
