Tiivistelmä:The negative or non-communitarian social capital of post-socialist societies has attracted considerable attention in the literature on the transition to market economy and democracy in these countries, not least following the publication of Putnam's Making Democracy Work (1993). Interpreted as a legacy of and a reaction to inadequate and inefficient state socialist institutional arrangements, particularistic networks and informal connections and related phenomena such as clientelism and corruption continue to represent a salient feature of society after the downfall of communism.
