| Tiivistelmä: | Central european banks are not yet ready for privatisation. Forcing the issue is likely to hurt rather than help banking development. Look at the progress made towards transition and the first thing people quote is the private sector's share of the economy. But while this is a legitimate way of measuring a country's progress away from central planning, it does not necessarily follow that bank privatization is essential. A simple question must be posed: what is privatization trying to achieve and how will it increase banking efficiency? |
