| Tiivistelmä: | This paper explores the effect of the Spanish privatisation process on the performance and corporate governance of the firms privatised through public offerings from 1985 to 2003. Based on conventional pre- vs. post-privatization comparisons, there is found no significant improvements in privatised firms' efficiency and profitability. However, the results suggest a change in firms' ownership structure and in the characteristics of boards of directors after privatization. |
