| Tiivistelmä: | Two questions are addressed in the study: To what degree has quality become an important objective of American firms during the last decade? To what degree are quality investments pervasive throughout the production process? Using data from the USA optical fiber industry, the answer to both of these questions is clear. Firms in the USA invested a larger percent of their budgets toward quality-related objectives in the 1980s than did their foreign counterparts. This might explain, in part, why USA procedures of optical fibers dominate the world market when many other technology-based industries are losing their share of the world market. |
