| Tiivistelmä: | Sir Edvin Chadwick's proposed scheme of bidding for the field, wich was the forerunner of Demsetz's later work, is examined in both natural-monopoly and non-natural-monopoly settings. Clear limits are derived for the application of the scheme. Whenever there are elements of increasing cost present, a tax must be introduced into the bidding procedure. More generally, Chadwick bidding is one of a number of possible methods of controlling social problems that must be assessed in comparative-institutionalist terms. |
