| Tiivistelmä: | Coping with the heterogeneity of the environment can be said to be the core problem facing the management of multinational companies. This paper deals with the distortions in the measurement of the performance of foreign affiliates and plants caused by widely differing national business environments. It reports the findings of a field study of 19 multinational companies which are members of the Arbeitskreis "Organisation und Führung international tätiger Unternehmen" der Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft/DGfB e.V. The study shows how factors like exchange-rate fluctuations, different legal and cultural frameworks, different political and economic risks and intra-firm transfers seriously affect the performance evaluation process in MNCs and the methods used to relieve or solve these problems. |
