| Tiivistelmä: | Recent interest within the field of batch manufacturing has focused on the concept of flexible manufacturing systems. Although the potential benefits of flexible manufacturing are significant, achieving these in practice depends on successfully resolving a number of problem issues. In particular, the questions of technological and organizational integrations need to be addressed. The progress made in the firms studied in dealing with these issues is discussed and a number of dimensions is identified along which other organizations will need to adapt. |
