Tiivistelmä:St. Gobain, with its tradition of both paternal and administrative management, has long been a perfect example of French-style organization. A modernization of management started in the 1930s, but the transition of the old firm into that of today took place in the 1960s, thanks to a series of restructuring operations and in response to a group identity crisis in the late 1960s. Hence, in 1970 the group merged with Pont-a-Mousson. St. Gobain has been marked by two other major events - its nationalization in 1982 and its privatization four years later. The culture of the firm which has experienced such changes, is discussed.
