Tiivistelmä:Fundamental issues of product and process innovations are reviewed in terms of performance, determinants of innovate behaviour are analyzed, European and Japanese differences in innovations are contrasted. Linkage between corporate product policy and manufacturing strategy and their implications for product and process innovations are empirically investigated. Findings indicate changes in the competitive environment: product innovations are easily reverse-engineered; it has become easier to source more components from outside suppliers; the interaction of product and process innovation is a crucial determinant of market performance. Importance of keeping abreast of emerging technology is stressed.
