| Tiivistelmä: | This article analyzes the determinants of shared ownership in U.S. multinational companies and, in particular, joint ventures. The evidence indicates that whole ownership is most common when companies coordinate integrated production activities across different locations, transfer technology, and benefit from worldwide tax planning. The article examines the market decline in the use of joint ventures over the last 20 years. |
