| Tiivistelmä: | It is often thought that increased inward foreing direct investment (FDI) contributes to domestic capital formation, whereas increased outward FDI reduces it. The authors demonstrate that such generalization is inappropriate. Hypotheses linking the impact of FDI to the underlying motivation for investment is demonstrated and tested using available Canadian industry-level data. |
