Tiivistelmä:Trinidad and Tobago is a part of one of the world’s most tourist-intensive regions. This paper seeks to identify and analyse the strategies that can be adopted to increase the tourism industry and the economic development in the area. The energy sector dominates in the area constituting 34,1% to the country’s GDP. The tourism sector has a potential to provide sustainable employment and influence on national financial and economic stability. The tourism industry currently represents 13,8% of total GDP in Trinidad and Tobago and is expected to increase its share by nearly three percentage points to 16,5% by 2015. The employment of the tourism sector accounts for 16.7% of total employment. The Government's policy strategy, Vision 2020, is adopted and it identifies tourism as one of five (5) sectors that should be developed to contribute to the country's economic development using three main strategies.
