| Tiivistelmä: | The role of Belgian public sector in the finance of innovation is analysed. First a theoretical foundation of public intervention is developed. Than the role of public institutions and policy measures in Belgium are evaluated and their scope is compared to similar initiatives in several European countries. The necessity of a fundamental reorientation of Belgian policies is stressed implying increased aid for innovating firms in the early start-up and R and D stages, and the establishment of an effective institutional framework to encourage the development of private initiatives. |
