| Tiivistelmä: | The concept of comparative advantages is probably the most important theoretical frame for explaining the terms of international specialisation.There were several attempts in the past to construct an empirical measure of comparative advantages that would at the same time serve as a criterion of efficiency of the integration of domestic economy in the world trade.In this paper the author gives a survey through this attempts commenting advantages and disadvantages of each individual measure.Author also suggests his own new measure, called the measure of the revealed international comparative advantages, in means of integrating all of the advantages and excluding majority of the disadvantages of already existing measures.The most important adantages of this new measure are as follows: (1) consideration of the intra-industry trade, (2) taking into account the size of the country concerned, (3) taking into account the differences between the structure of the world trade and the structure of the trade of the country concerned and (4) comparability of the time series data.On the basis of the data for Slovenian foreign trade in the period 1989-1993 author also gives a comparative analysis of the results obtained with each of the existing measures.At the end the paper brings some suggestions for the Slovenian economic policy based on the calculation of the comparative advantages' coefficients for Slovenia and its most important trading partners. |
