| Tiivistelmä: | This paper aims to 1) develop a comprehensive framework of functional management competence in young, technology-based companies, and 2) define and validate a measurement tool for evaluating the competence of functional management. A phase model is proposed, based on the examination of 212 young firms operating in various fields of technology. It is found that functional management, especially technology and marketing management are significant factors influencing the development speed of young firms. In turn, financial management does not seem to have any notable effect on development speed. |
