| Tiivistelmä: | Farm policies - price and revenue supports, subsidies for exports, investments etc. - have significantly affected farmers' revenues. But who is a farmer? The answer is not at all evident. Attempts are reviewed to clearly define this profession by contrasting the various social strata in farming. The most efficient farmers constantly try to keep the other from being entitled to the benefits of government aid. There is a farming "profession" as sociologists understand this term, and there are farming "professionals" who would like it otherwise understood. This profession may be seen as a special interest group. |
