| Tiivistelmä: | How can the economic agents overcome the fast rising flood of information in a better way? In an attempt to answer this question the role of the development of the data bank business is examined. Various types of data banks are characterized: transaction-oriented data banks; reference data banks; and facts-store (fulltext or documentary) data banks. Some types of data banks planned for public use are described. Special attention is paid to two data banks which have been developed recently in Switzerland. One of them is named "Swisslex" and serves legal purposes mainly supporting lawyers. The other is named "Teledata". It contains different kinds of economic information. The costs and benefits of data banks are revealed. |
