Tiivistelmä: | Faculty is recruited in a situation of uncertainty and information asymmetry. Potential signals for the expected research productivity of young academics are the reputation of their home university or the their publication record. Empirical analyses of German data shows that publications in top journals influence the recruitment decision most. These findings are compared to research concerning the personnel policies of American universities. By introducing the "Juniorprofessur" German career paths become more similar to American. Then recruiting will be more based on doctoral prestige underlining the importance of reputation hierarchies among doctoral granting departments. |
