| Tiivistelmä: | This article proposes new indicators of patent value, related to the geographic bounds of patenting strategy and the identification of institutional sources of knowledge. Forward citations received by 208 patent families of Belgian universities are empirically analyzed to evaluate the new determinants of patent value. The study indicates one significant advancement on antecedent indicators: the proposed indicators are able to provide detailed information of the institutional sources of the knowledge patented inventions take in. These new indicators provide thorough information on the impact non-patent citations, backward patent citations, co-assignees and the geographical bounds for patent protection have on patent value. |
