Tiivistelmä: | In the United Kingdom (UK), a gradual shift in research funding from blanket financing by government agencies towards more diversified streams of income through activities funded by various customers is giving rise to academic research institutions (here as: a-r-insts.) to direct their research portfolios accordingly. Academic organizations, e.g. university institutes are increasingly relying on the funding from research projects paid for by other customers than national funding bodies, thus diversifying their operations. However, wrong choices in this diversification process can have serious financial or operational consequences for the organization. A framework is proposed for helping to enable a-r-insts. to rationalize their decision-making processes in seeking external funding through project grants or research contracts and learn from projects. |
