Tiivistelmä:Western manufacturing management is threatened by Japanese competition. The causes of the apparent advantage of Japanese firms are investigated. The "just-in-time" production as an innovative paradigm for manufacturing control, originally developed in Japan, is described and analyzed. The most important JIT concepts are thoroughly discussed. The reasons and results of implementation of JIT method by Western companies are highlighted. It is shown how manufacturing techniques observed in Japan have been radically modified to suit Western organizations. Consequently the description of JIT with a mark "Japanese" may be rightly seen as a part of the Japanization mythology.
