Tiivistelmä:The author uses survey data on a sample of Canadian firms to examine the impact of unions on technological change. The study indicates that unionism is not a significant determinant of the rate of technological change, but its presence affects the way in which innovation takes place. For example, respondents with unions were more likely to introduce new technologies for cost- cutting or production control reasons and 'shed' labor in the process.
