Tiivistelmä:The conventional way is to look at business failure and turnaround as the only two distinct phases which need analysis. But there is a third one to be identified, the "critical phase". Within this phase the decisions taken will secure or destroy the firm. In planning intervention after recognizing and admitting the severity of the firm's decline, a good manager has to be aware of the fact that delaying the necessary action could result in losing control over external agents during the turnaround phase. An examination of the cases of 22 firms shows that the mode of intervention between decline and intervention requires delicate handling of problems in order to avoid derailing the turnaround process.
