| Tiivistelmä: | The tools of quality management in manufacturing - statistical process control, benchmarking, signboard performance management, activity-based accounting, and the like - are now taking hold in service industries. Although each tool might be used individually, they are intricately interrelated. It is the combination that gives meaning to the word "total" in total quality management (TQM). Some guidelines are offered on how the key TQM techniques are being put to work in insurance, education, retailing, and other service areas. These include manager's "inward fixations", focus on customers, training in problem solving, providing synergism, celebrating results , expanded reward and recognition to reinforce the results. |
