| Tiivistelmä: | The completion of the Single European Market together with the opening of the Channel Tunnel potentially represents a major change in the competitive environment facing industries in the United Kingdom and Northern Europe. Completion of the Tunnel, by differentially altering the financial and non-financial costs of distance and accessibility, will affect the relative competitiveness of firms in different regions on both sides of the Channel (1). These changes are likely to be of particular significance to transport practitioners within marginally competitive firms in peripheral regions. |
