Tiivistelmä: | Recessions are a time when some, but not all, firms are affected by a collapse of demand. Although the expectation of less efficient firms to be affected most severely, selection pressures may be myopic and penalize firms facing only transitory problems. Using data generated by a large scale survey in the UK, we provide some evidence which is not inconsistent with the view. Especially, the data suggest, inter alia , that firms who experienced unusually high growth rates just prior to the recession often turned out to be particularly vulnerable to recessionary pressures. |
